Where Outora's adventures come from

Every peak, trail, and fire tower in Outora starts with real-world data: public datasets, open mapping, and hand-curation. These are the sources, with our thanks.

• U.S. Geological Survey, Geographic Names Information System (GNIS). Summits, waterfalls, and other named features. Public domain, credited with thanks.
• New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). Trail and lands data, and the fire towers that started a whole challenge. (The exact credit wording per the DEC dataset's terms is being finalized and will appear here.)
• New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks). Trail data across the state park system, credited with thanks.
• U.S. Census Bureau, TIGER/Line (2024). County boundaries behind county badges and filters. Public domain, credited with thanks.

• The clubs and communities behind the challenges. The Adirondack 46ers, the Catskill 3500 Club, and the Fire Tower Challenge are real challenges maintained by real organizations. Outora is a companion to their work, not a replacement.
• Outora curation. Marquee adventures carry human-verified coordinates; the rest pass physical-plausibility checks. Errors are ours. Report a problem in the app and Explorers improve the map for Explorers.
